ai Dec 26, 2024

Starting a new year can feel a little stressful, especially when you’re trying to plan YouTube videos. But I found a way to make it simple. As someone who learns best by seeing things laid out, I created a video topic planner that’s super easy to use. With Poppy AI, I planned my 2025 YouTube content in less than an hour—and you can too!

This isn’t just about using ChatGPT. I’ll show you a better way to organize your ideas and plan your content.

Why Visual Planning Helps

I’ve always loved using sticky notes and whiteboards to plan ideas. But this time, I used a digital tool called Poppy AI. It makes it easy to brainstorm and organize ideas in a grid format so you can see everything at once.

Step 1: Create Content Categories

First, open Poppy and make a blank board. Add your main content categories, like:

  • Gear and software
  • Setup and planning
  • Recording
  • Editing

These categories help you stay organized and make sure your videos are interesting and different from each other.

Step 2: Pick the Right Topics

When thinking about video ideas, ask yourself three simple questions:

  1. What do I enjoy making?
  2. What will help my viewers the most?
  3. What works well with YouTube’s algorithm?

Check your YouTube stats for the past 90 days. Look for videos that got lots of views, likes, comments, or brought in new subscribers. These clues show you what your audience loves.

Step 3: Let AI Help You Brainstorm

Poppy works with AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. By uploading screenshots of your YouTube stats, the AI can suggest video topics that match what your audience wants to see.

I also added my own ideas. For example, I want to make videos about Tella, Descript, and Ecamm. Even though these topics aren’t in my top-performing videos, I know they’ll be helpful and fun to create.

Step 4: Check Out Similar Channels

Look at other YouTube channels that cover topics similar to yours. I call these "niche neighbors." They’re not competitors—they’re creators with similar audiences. Watching their top-performing videos can give you ideas for your own channel.

This also helps YouTube’s algorithm link your channel with theirs, which can grow your audience faster.

Step 5: Build Your Content Calendar

Once you have a list of ideas, organize them into themes, like:

  • Beginner Tutorials: “How to Use Descript for Beginners”
  • Advanced Tips: “Descript’s Hidden Features”
  • Trending Topics: Covering current industry buzz
  • Personal Workflow: Behind-the-scenes insights

Themes keep your content fresh and interesting for all kinds of viewers.

Step 6: Create Titles and Thumbnails

Use AI to come up with catchy video titles and eye-popping thumbnails. Feed examples of your best-performing videos into the AI to help it match your style and tone.

Step 7: Stay Flexible

I came up with over 160 video ideas for 2025—plenty to fill my calendar! But flexibility is important. Save unused ideas so you can use them later or tweak them to fit new trends.

If you prefer tracking your ideas by hand, you can use tools like Monday.com or a YouTube planner from Video Brand Academy.

Conclusion

Planning YouTube videos for a whole year doesn’t have to be hard. With tools like Poppy AI, you can organize your ideas, save time, and create content that your audience will love.
